“Dear Non-Knitter…”

Does anyone relate to this problem?  Share with us your story 🙂

“Dear non-knitter,

Here are few things that are intended to help you understand us knitters better.

I can knit, talk and listen. The fact that I look you straight in the eyes while I’m knitting, should be an indication that you have all my attention (except while I’m counting). This is called multi-tasking.

Do not change the TV channel if I’m sitting in front of the TV with my knitting needles. I know perfectly what’s going on in the episode though I’m not looking at the TV and know very well who killed whom for that matter. The only time I do not want to talk to you is when you hear; “23, 24, 25, 26 ….” If you can hear me saying some some numbers out loud, it is a clear signal that I’m counting.

If you disturb me in these circumstances, I refuse to take responsibility for my own actions, if you are the cause that I have to recount these 376 stitches. Believe me, it will not be pretty.

Although I curse like a sailor, throw my knitting projects up against the wall, and at times may threaten every one around me, I really enjoy knitting. You can count on it that I sure do love it. I find it fun and incredibly relaxing.

Since we are already on that subject… YES, you can give me more yarn. Don’t assume that even though I have plenty of yarn, that I don’t want more. I have a lot because I love yarn. If you hear me talk about that I have too much yarn, then I’m lying. More yarn is ALWAYS a good gift. If my yarn stash is larger than in the yarn shop, then maybe I will think about it.

Thank you for taking this into consideration. I will probably send you more useful advice later such as “How housekeeping makes you incredibly sexy”.

Ps. You never know, maybe I will have you in mind when choosing my next knitting project. So be nice! 🙂 ”

Have you tried knitting with Icelandic wool? It’s unique and different and a must try if you have never knitted with Icelandic lopi yarn before.

Show us what you have been working on by sharing pictures of your knitting projects on Instagram.

Tag them with any of the following so we can find you 🙂

Álafoss Lopi

Bulky yarn: 100% new wool. 100 g (3.5 oz.) approx. 100 m. (109 yd.).

Gauge: 13 sts to 10 cm(4″) over St st using size 6-6½ mm (Old UK 4-3) (US 10-10).

Léttlopi

Worsted weight yarn: 100% new wool. 50 g (1.7 oz) approx. 100 m  (109 yd).

Gauge: 18 sts to 10 cm (4″) over St st using size 4½ – 5  mm (Old UK 7-6) (US 7-8).

Plötulopi

Unspun yarn: 100% new wool.

Gauge-1 ply: 19 sts to 10 cm (4″) over St st using size 4½  mm (Old UK 7) (US 7).

Gauge-2 ply: 14 sts to 10 cm (4″) over St st using size 5½  mm (Old UK 5) (US 9).

Since Plötulopi is an unspun yarn, it is fragile to knit; however, due to the length of its fibres, it knits into a sweater that is both sturdy and soft. Sold by weight as a one-ply, flat roll, called a “plate”. Plate approx. 110 g (3.85 oz).  approx. 300 m (328 yd).

Einband

Lace Weight Yarn: 100% wool, 50 gr (1.7 oz) approx. 250 m (273yd).

Gauge: 30 sts to 10 cm (4″) over St st using size 2½  mm (Old UK 13) (US 1).

Gauge: 17 sts to 10 cm (4″) over St st using size 4  mm (Old UK 8) (US 6).
Gauge: 15 sts to 10 cm (4″) over St st using size 6  mm (Old UK 4) (US 10).

Garments made from Einband stretch and are therefore difficult to measure until they have been washed. It is recommended that you make a swatch, rinse and block it and then measure it when dry to find the exact gauge and needle size to achieve accurate measurements in the finished piece. After washing, the wool becomes soft and manageable.
